Modern engines and installations are increasingly software-driven. In practice, this means that not every malfunction has a mechanical cause. More and more often, issues originate from software or data communication between the engine, ECM/ECU and the control system.

This communication is handled via industrial protocols such as CAN bus, CANopen, J1939 and Modbus. When signals are not transmitted, received or interpreted correctly, it can result in fault codes, unstable behavior or unexpected downtime.
